Description
Shadow work refers to exploring and integrating aspects of oneself that are rejected and relegated to the dark caverns of our psyches. These are often the parts considered “undesirable” to ourselves or perhaps to society . They might be undeveloped aspects of our selves that were ignored due to other personal attributes being more prominent or in high demand given the nature of our environments and/or roles. Shadow parts could even be some higher truths or noble parts that would be real “game changers” if acknowledged and allowed to inform our everyday lives.
“Shadow work is the path of the heart warrior”- Carl Jung
Shadow work journal writing is a specific type of structured writing that has been found to improve self-awareness and self-acceptance. It is also a very gentle way to work through past traumas, events and emotions making way for more spaciousness, lightness and vitality. Clarity and guidance often come with this type of writing in the form of specific self-care advice or the highlighting of important patterns in need of attention.
Each week, specific prompts are provided as well as timed writing intervals for each. The timed nature of the writing exercise is intended to allow the information that is most relevant and opportune to emerge. Too much information coming forth at once could be overwhelming to sort through and integrate, which are important elements of shadow work. At the end of the course, participants will be provided specific ways to pursue these explorations on their own for continued self-discovery and personal growth.
